TEACHERS WORKSHOP

Kokrobitey Institute is partnered with the local Arise School in Kokrobite to establish ongoing discourse concerning educational philosophy, classroom culture, and resourceful design of educational materials. Together with Kokrobitey staff, teachers brainstorm educational materials and storage containers that can be made with waste—including plastic water bottles and caps, cardboard, pvc pipe, and more. We run hands-on workshops to demonstrate how simple lessons can be created from these simple materials that can be found anywhere. Teachers also discuss lesson plans and share their successes and challenges in the classroom. The group provides a space that traditional African knowledge and culture can be shared and incorporated into curriculum and educational materials, contributing to the Institute’s mission, research, and product development. The group meets bi-weekly at the KI Design Center.
